Show me the money
Devin Anderson just asked a question of FriendFeed on what the users would be able to handle when the time comes that FriendFeed has to start finding ways to pay the piper.
It is inevitable that FriendFeed is going to have to at some point figure out how it is going to pay the bills; assuming of course this isn’t just another exercise in building something just to be sold. Now wile the most obvious options would be to go with Google AdSense ads on the right side of the page this is one way I hope that they don’t go.
I have a couple of thoughts of things they could try with the first one being page sponsorship which could turn out to be a lucrative method as FriendFeed grows. The advantage here is that the ad from the sponsor would be something on the periphery but still visible without taking away from the overall simplicity of the page. They could even go to the point of having a sponsorship tag at the top and bottom of the page. Again this wouldn’t be an overly obtrusive ad style but would definitely have eyeballs looking at it.
The second while more obtrusive it to have one but no more than two ads interspersed with the page results. Give them a border and an neutral back ground they would be visible but not enough so as to over power the page content. Again they could carry the "Sponsored By" tag.
Anyway that is my two cents .. what do you folks thing?
